Bikeshak at IceBike 2018
IceBike 2018 – The post show run-down
Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd of February Bikeshak (represented by Ben) was down at the annual IceBike trade show where Madison and Sportline show their latest and greatest product lines for the coming season and show off some new products and bikes for the year ahead. There’s always so much to see at these shows but here are some of the best bits from this year.
New Genesis Zero Frame-set
The star of the show had to be the new Genesis Zero Frame-set which will be available in a number of build options for the coming season. Expect to see the Madison Genesis road team riding the new Zero SL in the major races in the British calender.
Saracen Traverse 29er
A big one for Saracen and a bike the MTB media have been talking about for weeks the new Traverse 29er fills the gap in the range nicely between the Kili Flyer and the monstrous Ariel. With an alloy front triangle and carbon rear suspended with 100mm of rear Fox Float DPS travel and a Fox 34 up front running on Shimano SLX stop and go equipment this bike is very much aimed at the do everything rider. With Enduro bikes becoming ever longer, lower and slacker the Traverse is an appealing option for all day epics and trail centre blasts. Hopefully we’ll be getting one in store when they land in April!
We first saw the Genesis Fugio at the Madison / Sportline line MY18 launch last year but for IceBike they’ve announced a new Sram 1x version for the incredibly popular ‘G-Road’ bike. Running a SRAM Apex 1 road groupset it’s bang on trend for the gravel crowd and with huge 650b tyres with a gravel orientated tread and mounts for just about anything it will take on any adventure of piece of luggage you can throw at it. With all of the staff here riding Genesis we can vouch for the ride and build quality of their bikes too so we can’t wait to get a leg over the new Fugio.
New Genesis Croix De Fer frame set
One of Genesis best selling bikes and arguably the one that built the brands reputation for truly robust and practical bikes the Croix De Fer gets an update for 2018 with the key upgrade being through axels front and rear and a new Reynolds 853 frame. Also fluro orange? Absolutely!
New MilKit tubeless inflater, Shimano XT flat pedals & Shimano GR9 / 7 enduro shoes
Sometimes small products are the ones that are most talked about and the MilKit tubeless inflater stirred up a lot of interest at the show. This super light weight chargeable air cannister can be used to inflate any tubeless tyre with just a track pump and it super easy and quick to use. The best bit? It’s due to retail at £24.99 for the small capacity can which just blows rival products out of the water for value. Also new for the IceBike launch are the Shimano GR9 and GR7 shoes the former of which will be used by Danny Hart for the Madison, Saracen downhill team. The soles have been developed in conjunction with Michelin giving fantastic grip and designed in tandem with their new XT and Saint flat pedals, speaking of which!
The new Shimano XT Flat pedals have been promised for so long we thought they would never come but finally they were launched at IceBike! Super sleek lines, XT reliability and replaceable pins will make these a very popular pedal indeed. Especially if Mr Hart starts endorsing them…
New Finish Line tubeless sealant
A new tubeless sealant to rival the all powerful STANS ‘no tubes’ was launched at IceBike this year. Not that exciting huh? Well how about a sealant that NEVER goes off! That’s right, thanks to a clever kevlar fibre additive and zero chemical sealing process this tubeless sealant will stay 100% effective for the life of the tyre. It’s also eco friendly with no ammonia and the sealing fibres which can be trapped by traditional filtration systems. All of this makes it the go to sealant for us so we’ll be stocking it soon and using it on all of our tubeless set ups.
There was so much going on at the show these are just a small selection of the highlights for us. It was mission accomplished for Bikeshak to get our core Spring / Summer clothing order nailed down so we’ll be getting in lots of new and exciting Madison clothing for road / mountain and commute in the coming weeks as well as some great new products so keep your eyes on our social media for updates as they land and if your not following us, why not?!! We’ll see you in store soon.
