Bikeshak's February Favourites

Things to make riding in February a nicer place.

February seems to have kicked in with a vengeance.  Just as you want to start upping the miles the temperature’s dropped.  Here’s our pick of products to help you get through the cold snap in great shape for the season to come.

Castelli Risvolto

Risvolto

Back in the dark winters of the 1980's my mother used to say I should always wear a hat because “you lose 60% of your body heat through your head.”  I’m not entirely sure of the scientific grounding of my dear mother’s claim, but it’s undeniably a damn sight warmer when you’ve got your ears tucked up underneath a Castelli Risvolto Winter cap when the bitter winds are gusting around.

Nuun Active Hydration

Nuun in the grass

We rate this stuff highly indeed.  Nuun is the perfect accompaniment to those long winter training rides.  Whilst you’re racking up numerous steady base miles and trying to keep your weight in check you don’t necessarily want to be filling up your belly with energy drinks, but it’s still imperative to stay fully hydrated.  Nuun delivers all the essential electrolytes you need in handy tablet form with just 8 calories per serving.  What's more all 11 flavours are rather paletable.

Chamois Buttr

Buttr

Long training miles mean long hours in the saddle.  Long hours in the saddle mean that you already know the importance of staying comfortable.  Chamois Buttr’s non-greasy formula makes unwanted chaffing and rubbing in the unmentionable areas a thing of the past.  The Euro style formula combines the naturally anti-bacterial benefits of menthol with the astringent qualities of witch hazel…. Plus it’s kinda tingly in a special way.

Rouleur Magazine

Rouleur

Sometimes it’s just too nasty out there.  Sometimes it’s too icy to risk getting kitted up and out on the bike.  Don’t worry about it too much, you can do intervals another day.  It’s days like that when you simply need to grab a brew and something good to read & cycling publications don’t come better than Rouleur.  Issue 28 is just in, which has a photograph of an equal number of shoes & feet on the cover.
