New Maxxis Road Tyres
We’ve been massive fans of Maxxis’ mountain bike tyres for years. They’ve always offered great designs for any type of rider in any type of condition utilizing a vast array of effective tread patterns & highly advanced rubber compounds. They have now brought their experience & expertise into the road market. The following are available in store now & will be on here in a click & buy style shortly:

MAXXIS DETONATOR
At Bikeshak, Simon has been running Maxxis Detonators on his Sabbath September commuting bike all year & has been really impressed. They have out-performed & out-lasted a great many of training tyres we’re used to from the more recognized road tyre specialists. Detonators feature a dual compound rubber set up & tread pattern that copes amazingly well all year round. What’s more they come in loads of colour options so you can match your rubber to your frame - Blue, Grey, Orange, Red, Yellow, Sky Blue, White, Lime & (our favourite) Pink. They weigh in at a very respectable 235g & are great value at £27.49 each.

MAXXIS RE-FUSE
I’m keen to get a pair of these bad-boys on my training bike. They come in slightly heavier than the Detonators (280g) but have an addition Kevlar belt meaning that they ‘Re-fuse’ to puncture. Thankfully Maxxis’ forte is with tyre design & not with puns.
The thing with this tyre that I’m liking it the tread pattern. It looks reminiscent of the Continental Competition race tyres that are on my carbon tubs. They’re not going to see the light of day until the other side of the winter, so it’ll be good to slap on some tyres with a similar style of confident grip. I’ll let you know how I get on after a few weeks use.

MAXXIS Xenith.
This is a tidy race-able slick. They’ve coupled a super-fast rolling compound down the centre with a softer, more supple compound on the edges. This means that you get a quick long lasting tyre that still sticks like s@#t to a blanket in the corners. They come in at £33.99 & tip the scales at 220g a piece adding up to a great alternative to the usual suspects.

MAXXIS COLUMBIERE
Another fast tyre. This time with a grooved tread design for enhanced control in the wet. A tad lighter than the Xenith at 215g for a 700x23c but still has added puncture resistance with Maxxis’ ‘Nylon Breaker’ reinforcement. If you liked the Conti Grand Prix you should get on well with these chappies & enjoy the very reasonable £33.99 pricetag too.
